our Einstein has baked a cake and cut it into 8 slices. If he hands out 3 slices to his guests,what fraction of the cake is left

If we assume that Einstein has baked

a cake and cut it into 8 equal pieces.

Then ,

each piece = 1/8

distributed part = ( 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 ) = 3/8

Remaining cake with Einstein = 1 - 3/8

= ( 8 - 3 )/8

= 5/8

Or

Remaining cake = ( 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 )

= 5/8

Number of slices the cake is cut into = 8

Number of slices given away = 3


Find the number of slices that are left:

Left = Original number of slices - slices given away

Left = 8 - 3 = 5


Find the Fraction of the cake left:

Fraction = slices left / original number of slices

Fraction = 5/8


Answer: 5/8 of the cake is left.
