Our hand hurts more when we hit the wall. Than when we hit the spunze seat of the car we do not hurt.Why?

Wall is more harder and is not compressible , so when we hit the wall our hand pains.Sponge is soft and can be easily compressed so when we hit the sponge of the seat we don't get hurt.
