Explanation:

The Constitution of India is the supreme law in India. A Constitution is a set of rules and regulations guiding the administration of a country. The constitution of India is the framework for political principles, procedures, and powers of the government. It is also the longest constitution in the world with 395 articles, 12 schedules (Originally it consisted of 395 Articles arranged under 22 Parts and 8 Schedules. Today after many amendments, it has 441 Article and 12 schedules). The constitution was written on 26 November 1949, and was made the center of law in 26 January 1950.

India had to face many problems after independence. Rehabilitating the refugees who migrated from Pakistan, merging the princely states, maintenance of law and order were the major challenges. Sardar Patel successfully achieved the merger of the princely states and provinces with the Union of India. Even the challenge of framing a constitution in order to enable govern the country was also fulfilled.

The recommendations of the Motilal Nehru Committee and the decisions taken by the meeting of National Congress at Karachi prepared for the formation of a Constituent Assembly.

The first meeting of the new Constituent Assembly was conducted on 9th of December, 1946. The next meeting conducted in 11th of December, 1946 under the chairmanship of Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Participants included Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar(Dr. Bhim Rao Ambekar)and Sarojini Naidu. Dr. B.R Ambedkar, chairman of the Drafting Committee, is often called the father of the Indian Constitution.[1]

The 389 members of the Constituent Assembly formed many committees to examine in detail all the issues relating to the country. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar was the Chairman of one of the most important committees, i.e., the Drafting Committee. Other members of the committee were N.Gopalaswamy Iyengar, Alladi Krishnaswamy etc.

The Constituent Assembly, which came into existence on 11th of December 1946, had 145 meetings and framed a draft constitution. During these discussions, the various laws proposed by the British Government in 1909, 1919 and 1935, the British Parliamentary system, the American Bill of Rights, the Social Directive Policies of Ireland were studied and some parts of those were written in the Constitution. Finally, the Indian Constitution was approved on 26th of November, 1949 and came into effect on 26th of January, 1950. This day (January 26) is celebrated as the 'Republic Day' in India.

Answer:“The constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.” These words of Benjamin Franklin rightly point out the role the constitution plays in an individual’s life.

Let’s first understand what the constitution represents from an analogy. Let’s assume India to be a big corporate, currently with 133.92 crores of employees spread across 3.287 million km2, with diversity in terms of culture, believes, etc. For such a diverse company to function smoothly without any conflicts, there has to be a set of norms that have to be followed. These norms are set in the form of a constitution in India. Now, like any company which defines its rules and norms following its vision, mission, and culture, India also adopted its constitution on 26th November 1949, keeping in mind its vision for the future as well as its diverse culture. To establish such norms and rules for such a diverse and large nation can take time and effort; hence, a seven-member the drafting committee was formed headed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and it took three years to draft the constitution of India.

Now, like any company’s norms define how the company’s employees should and should not behave; similarly, the constitution plays the role of guiding the light towards the right path, the path towards the betterment of the entire society. And this brings us to what role does constitution plays affecting the lives of 133.92 crores. First, let’s talk about some of the salient features or as we say USP of any corporate laid down in its norms to rightly portray its unique culture:

1.) Well, rules for such a diverse nation can be lengthy, so India’s constitution is the longest written constitution in the world. It has a preamble, 448 articles, 25 groups, 12 schedules and five appendices.

2.) With time, any company grows, and hence there might be a change in its culture or vision, and the norms should be changed accordingly. Similarly, in the case of India’s constitution, it has been made flexible to incorporate any changes according to the need of society.

3.) The norms should clearly state the culture and vision of the company. So, the constitution has a preamble, which is well-drafted and clearly states out that India is a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and always puts its people first.

4.) A well the stated policy of any company should clearly state what is it being expected from its employees and how should they behave; hence, the constitution of India clearly states the fundamental duties for its citizens.

These are a few of the long list of features that make India stand out from other nations. Constitution affects the lives of citizens of our country in numerous ways, clearly stating out the ways they should behave, but it only acts as a guiding light leading you towards the path to happiness, but the citizens must follow that path and work collectively towards the betterment of India. Here the importance of the top executives of the corporate, i.e. the lawmakers of India and those implementing it, becomes crucially important. Constitution also clearly states out the laws for decision-makers as well as implementers. So, it takes the collective efforts of the top executives (decision-makers), the middle management (decision implementers) and bottom line (the citizens) of the company (India) to make it a nation that will stand out from others.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar rightly said, “However good a Constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad. However bad a Constitution may be, if those implementing it are good, it will prove to be good.”

The Constitution of India was enforced on 26th January 1950. It was prepared by a committee consisting of seven members headed by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. It guides the citizens of India, the country’s government bodies and other authorities to act in the right manner. It has played a significant role in maintaining peace and prosperity in the country. The Constitution of India is the longest written constitution in the world. It took almost three years to write this detailed constitution. It has a preamble, 448 articles, 25 groups, 12 schedules and 5 appendices. It is much lengthier than the US Constitution that includes only 7 Articles.

First of all, democracy refers to a system of government where the citizens exercise power by voting. Democracy holds a special place in India. Furthermore, India without a doubt is the biggest democracy in the world. Also, the democracy of India is derived from the constitution of India. After suffering at the hands of British colonial rule, India finally became a democratic nation in 1947. Most noteworthy, Indian democracy since independence is infused with the spirit of justice, liberty, and equality.
