Our national emblem is taken from the  Lion Pillar of Sarnath which is situated near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Explanation:

  • Our national emblem is a depiction of four lions erected back to back which are taken from the Lion Capital Pillar of Sarnath. The pillar was built by Ashoka in 250 BC.
  • The Ashoka Chakra at the centre of abacus depicts the Dharmachakra of Buddha which has 24 spokes. The motto imbibed on the emblem is “Satyamev Jayate” ie. Truth always triumphs.
