86,250 students failed in both science and math

  • Given,
  • Out of 1,15,000 students 20% failed in exam
  • 40% of the failures failed in science only
  • 35% in mathematics only
  • But 5% of them. failed in other subject

  • I) how many failed in both science and math?
  • = 40% × 1,15,000  + 35% × 1,15,000
  • = 40/100 × 1,15,000  + 35/100 × 1,15,000
  • = 4 × 11500 + 35 × 1150
  • = 46000 + 40250
  • = 86,250
  • Therefore, a total of 86,250 students failed in both science and math
  • II) show the information in venn diagram
  • 1,15,000
  • 40% × 1,15,000 = 46,000
  • 35% × 1,15,000 = 40,250
  • 5% × 1,15,000 = 5,750
  • 20% × 1,15,000 = 23,000
