Answer:

Total number of people = 1200

People know English = 800

People know Punjabi = 50

a) Find the percentage of people who know only English :-

= \frac{People \: \: know \: \: English}{Total \: \: number \: \: of \: \: people} \times 100\% \\ \\ = \frac{800}{1200} \times 100\% \\ \\ = \frac{80000}{1200} \% = 66.67\%(approx.)

Hence,

66.67 % people know only English.

Find the number of people who know both languages :-

Total number of people - (people know English + people know Punjabi)

= 1200 - (800 + 50)

= 1200 - 850

= 350

Find the percentage of people who know both English and Punjabi :-

= \frac{350}{1200} \times 100\% \\ \\ = \frac{35000}{1200} \% = 29.16 \% (approx)

Hence,

The percentage of people who know both English and Punjabi = 29.16 %
