Let Vishal travelled x km distance by bus and (1900 - x) km distance by aeroplane.

speed of bus = 60 km/h
speed of aeroplane = 700 km/h
total time taken to complete = 5 hrs

∵ time = distance/speed
∴ total time taken to complete = time taken to travel by bus + time taken to travel by aeroplane
⇒ 5hrs = x/60 + (1900 - x)/700
⇒5 = (70x + 1900 × 6 - 6x)/4200
⇒5 = (64x + 11400)/4200
⇒5 × 4200 = 64x + 11400
⇒21000 = 64x + 11400
⇒21000 - 11400 = 64x
⇒9600 = 64x
⇒x = 150 km

Hence, distance travelled by bus = 150 km
and distance travelled by aeroplane = 1900 - 150 = 1750 km

Given:

Total distance = 1900 km

Distance by bus = bus km

Distance by airplane = ( 1900 - bus ) km

Total time = 5 hrs

Speed of the bus = 60 km / hr

Speed of the airplane = 700 km / hr

To find:

The distance traveled by bus.

Solution:

Time traveled in bus = Bus / 60

Time traveled in airplane = ( 1900 - bus ) / 700

Total time = Time traveled in bus + Time traveled in airplane

Total time = Bus / 60 + ( 1900 - Bus ) / 700

Substituting,

Bus / 60 - Bus / 700 + 1900 / 700 = 5

( 35 * Bus - 3 * Bus ) / 2100 = 5 - 19 / 7

32 * Bus = 2100 * ( 35 - 19 ) / 7

32 * Bus = 300 * 16

Bus = 4800 / 32

Hence,

Bus = 150 km
