Total = n (En) + n(Ec) + n(M) -n(En and Ec) - n (En and M) - n(En and M) + n(En and Ec and M)

$\sf \implies 40 = 16 + 22 + 26 - 5 - x - 14 + 2 \\ \\ \sf \implies 40 = 42 + 24 - 19 - x \\ \\ \sf \implies x = 42 + 5 - 40 \\ \\ \sf \implies x = 7$

The no. of students who study English and Mathematics but not Economics is 7.
