Out of 5 ladies and 3 gentleman , a committee of 6 is to be selected. In how many ways can this be done :-(i) when there are 4 ladies, (ii) when there is a majority of ladies? Plz,plz answer. Chp:- combination

no. of ways of selection = (selecting 4 ladies from 5) . (selecting 2 gentleman from 3)

= 5c4 . 3c2

= 5 . 3 = 15

(2) when there is a majority of ladies,

we will make cases when there is,

= 4 ladies, 2 gentleman and 5 ladies, 1 gentleman

= (selecting 4 ladies from 5) . (selecting 2 gentleman from 3) and (selecting 5 ladies from 5) . (selecting 1 gentleman from 3)

= 5c4 . 3c2 + 5c5 . 3c1

= 5 . 3 + 1 . 3 = 15 + 3 = 18
