Out of 8000 students,60%wereboys

so

60/100  * 8000

= 4800 boys

so girls = 8000 - 4800

= 3200

now,

 80% of boys and 90% of girls passed the exam

so

boys = 80/100 * 4800

=  3840 passed

girls = 90/100 *3200

= 2880  passed

so total passed students = 2880 + 3840

= 6720

now,

failed candidtates = 8000 - 6720

=  1280 students failed
