Out of a salary of $4500, I kept 1/3 as savings. Out of the remaining money, I spend 50 % on food and 20 % on house rent. How much do I spend on food and house rent?

SOLUTION :

 Given

Total amount = $4500

Amount saved = 1/3 of $4500

= (1/3)×4500

=4500/3

=$1500

Remaining amount = $4500 - $1500 = $3000

Given that 50% of the remaining amount was spent on food

⇒50% of  $ 3000

⇒(50/100)×3000

⇒(1/2)×3000

⇒3000/2

⇒ $1500

Given that 20% of $3000

⇒(20/100)×3000

⇒(1/5)×3000

⇒3000/5

⇒$600

Therefore the amount spent on food is $1500 and on house rent is $600.
