Answer:

The second sum is (c) Rs. 1800 /-

Step-by-step explanation:

total sum is 7200 /-

Let, the first sum is x

Then, the second sum is (7200 - x)

First part is invested in fixed deposit at 4% per annum for 2 years on simple interest

Then, interest is = ( x × 4/100 × 2 )

Second sum is invested in fixed deposit at 6% per annum for 4 years on simple interest

Then, interest is {(7200-x) × 6/100 × 4 }

The interest on the first part for 2 years is equal to the interest on the second part after 4 years

Hence, x × 4/100 × 2 = (7200-x) × 6/100 × 4

⇒x = 3(7200-x)

⇒x = 21600 - 3x

⇒4x = 21600

⇒x = 5400

Hence, The first sum is 5400

And the second sum is (7200-5400) = 1800
