carbon forms a very large number of compounds due to the property of catenation or self linking which enables an element to form long chain of compounds

gagank90815pa5vpv: It's also because carbon has a tetravalency.

Anonymous: can u pls help me
gagank90815pa5vpv: See carbon has 4 valency , but it is very hard for any atom to loss or gain 4 electrons to be stable . So carbon shows covalent bonding instead of ionic bonding. this means 1 carbon atom has room for 4 other electrons to accept from other atoms. and these 4 electrons could be of any other element or different combinations of atoms that's why carbon has such a large variety of compounds . Other important reason is the catenation property of Carbon

because catenation, tendency to bond multiple bond and tetravelency of carbon

suyash411: ctenation have self linking property
suyash411: or multiple means two or more bonds
suyash411: nd tetra means 4 valency
suyash411: now okh
suyash411: pls mark as brainlist
suyash411: pls
