out of benzene and phenol, which gets easily nitrated and why?

Phenol gets easily nitrated because -OH group is an activating group for electrophilic substitution reaction.The lone pairs of Oxygen come in conjugation with the phenyl ring and the ring of phenol becomes more electronegative as compared to that of benzene.
