since we know the kinetic energies of the two masses are equal…

(1/2) * m1 * (v1)^2 = (1/2) * m2 * (v2)^2

m1 * (v1)^2 = m2 * (v2)^2
.:.
m1 / m2 = (v2)^2 / (v1)^2 OR v2^2 = m1/m2 * v1^2
if we say that m1 = 1kg and m2 = 2 kg, then v2^2 = 1/2 * v1^2 or v2 = 1/sqrt(2) * v1. so the lighter mass will move faster.
