Sodium (Na) is a metal.

4Na + O2 ⇒ 2Na2O + heat

Sodium reacts violently with oxygen. The metal catches fire when left in the open, so sodium is usually immersed in kerosene to prevent accidental fires.

Sulphur is a non-metal.

Sodium (Na) is a metal (i.e.) electro-positive element, that loses its electrons and forms a positively charges ion.

It is highly reactive in nature. So, it is not available in its pure form.

When sodium metal is exposed to air (at room temperature), it readily reacts with oxygen and forms Sodium oxide.

Chemical reaction is as follows:

4Na      +      O_{2}     --------->       2Na_{2} O

When sodium is heated with oxygen at high pressure, then sodium superoxide ( NaO_{2} ) will be formed.
