The answer to the above question is 365.8.

Given:

Sum = 640

One part was lent at 6% Simple Interest and the other was lent at 9% Simple Interest.

Interest in the first part after 3 years is equal to Interest in the second part after 6 years.

To Find:

The value of the second part.

Solution:

Let one part be x, Therefore the other part is (640 - x).

Let x be the part with 6% interest.

According to the question,

Interest in the first part after 6 years = PRT/100

Interest=(x)(6)(6)/100\\Interest=36x/100

Interest in the second part after 3 years = PRT/100

Interest=(640-x)(9)(3)/100\\Interest=(27)(640-x)/100\\Interest=(17280-27x)/100

According to the question, Interest in the first part after 6 years is equal to interest in the second part after 3 years,

Equating Interests,

36x/100=(27)(640-x)/100\\4x=3(640-x)\\4x=1920-3x\\7x=1920\\x=1920/7\\x=274.2

Hence, one part is 274.2 and the other part is (640-274.2) = 365.8

Therefore, The second part of the sum is 365.8.
