The distance travelled by bus, if Vasantrao travelled some distance by bus at the speed of 60 km/hr out of 900 km is 540 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the distance travelled by bus be “x” km and by railway be “y” km.

Total distance = 900 km

x + y = 900 …… (i)

Time taken to travel by bus with a speed of 60 km/hr = [x/60] hr

Time taken to travel by railway with a speed of 90 km/hr = [y/90]hr

Total time taken for the complete journey = 13 hrs

∴ [x/60] + [y/90] = 13

90x + 60 y = 70200 ….. (ii)

Now, multiplying by 90 throughout the eq. (i) and subtracting it eq. (ii) from (i), we get

90x + 90y = 81000

90x + 60 y = 70200

-       -            -

----------------------------

       30 y = 10800

---------------------------

y = 360 km

And,

x = 900 – 360 = 540 km

Thus, the distance travelled by bus is 540 km.
