Given:

Out of three numbers the first is twice the second and three times third.

The average of three number is 88.

To Find:

The smallest number is

Solution:

Let the first number be x  , second number be y and third number be z

The first is twice the second

So, x=2y

y=\frac{x}{2}

The first is three times third.

x=3z

z=\frac{x}{3}

The average of three number is 88

So, 88=\frac{x+\frac{x}{2}+\frac{x}{3}}{3}\\88 \times 3 =x+\frac{x}{2}+\frac{x}{3}\\264=\frac{6x+3x+2x}{6}\\264 \times 6 = 11x\\\frac{264 \times 6}{11}=x\\144=x

y=\frac{x}{2}=\frac{144}{2}=72\\z=\frac{x}{3}=\frac{144}{3}=48

Hence The smallest number is 48
