P is more thick, so when hot liquid say H2O will be put on it, some part of the wire will expand and the other part will remain same, and when cold h2o will be thrown on it, some layers of it will contract and the other layers will remain in same which will lead to cracks on it.

Q is more thin so when hot H2O will be thrown on it, the whole wire will expand and when cold H2O will be thrown on it, the whole wire will expand. So there will be no cracks
