Experiment can be a single protocol you follow from beginning to end to get a result. Experiments are part of research, research starts from selecting a problem then addressing it with a hypothesis, then comes your experimental phase. Reading a new research article related to your field is research not experiment, applying the method in your work either dry lab or wet lab is experiment.
