\huge{\textbf{\underline{Oxygen\;Transport\;In\;The\;Blood:-}}}

There are two types of respiratory gases transported by blood:-

  • Oxygen transport.
  • Carbon dioxide transport.

Oxygen transport by blood:-

Oxygen is a gas which is transported from alveoli to tissue through blood in 2 forms.

  • Physical solution form:- Once the oxygen enters into blood, it combined with plasma to form dissolved oxygen and transported towards tissues. It accounts 3%.
  • Oxyhaemoglobin form:-Haemoglobin is a respiratory pigment and capable of transport of four oxygen molecules. Haemoglobin contains four iron atoms and each one can accommodate one molecule of oxygen. Hence, one haemoglobin can accommodate 4 molecules of oxygen.
  • When all the iron atoms of haemoglobin are accomodated by oxygen molecules. Then it is called Oxyhaemoglobin (saturated). This type of transport accounts 97%.
