Kabuliwala is a story about a fruit-peddler from Afghanistan and his relationship with the narrator's daughter.
One day, the narrator is writing the 17th chapter of his book when his daughter, Mini, runs into his room. She is a very talkative girl. After playing with her father for some time, she suddenly runs to the window, calls the Kabuliwala and runs inside as she fears that he will kidnap her. The Kabuliwala, whose name is Rahamat, walks to the house. Since it would be rude to call him over and not buy anything, the narrator buys some stuff and chats with him. Then he calls Mini from inside to break her unfounded fear. When she comes out, Rahamat gives her some grapes but she does not accept them and becomes doubly suspicious. This is their first meeting.
After this meeting, they meet everyday and become good friends.
One day, Rahamat is arrested for stabbing a person. He is soon forgotten by the narrator and Mini.
Several years later, Mini has grown up and is going to be married. Rahamat drops in at the house for one last look. When he realises that Mini cannot recognise him, he is heartbroken. He used to see Mini as it reminded him of his own daughter, and now he realises that she would also have forgotten him and he must get to know her all over again. The narrator gives him some money to go back to Kabul, and he feels that the benevolence of his spirit led to a more luminous wedding.

This is the outline of the story. I left out some essential details, like the jokes or what happened when Rahamat was arrested, but I think u can handle that.

Best of Luck for Literature paper!! (5th March 2018)
