The main occupation of the citizens of India is agriculture with more than 60% of people involved it but still there is a problem of food scarcity because the required amount of output is not produced in agriculture. So the government has taken vast steps to cater to the need of the people of our country. Food Corporation of India (FCI) was established with the sole purpose of collecting food grains and stock them to be utilised either in Public Distribution System (PDS) or at time of calamity like flood, earthquake etc.

Now, FCI godowns are flooding with food grains but still people are dying of hunger. The reason for the same can be understood as under:

Proper implementation of policies of government is not happening.

Food is available at high prices because of the intervention of middlemen.

At some places natural calamities occur which makes the transportation of food a tough task.

Corruption also plays a major role due to which food does not reach the poor.

The income level is low so some sections of society cannoteven afford food at the lowest prices offered by the government.
