Ovules contains and gives rise to the female reproductive cells.

It consists of three layers with the outer layer being integument which is a protective layer.

This layer is followed by the nucellus which in its immature stage contains a megasporocyte.

The female gametophyte is in the centre.

The female gametophyte, also known as megagametophyte, produces the egg which takes part in fertilization.
