CaOCl₂ is commonly known as Bleaching powder .

It's Chemical name is "Calcium chloro hypochlorite"

Because it has chloride(Cl⁻) and hypochlorite(OCl⁻) ions both having -1 charge

Thus Ca must have +2 charge to account for the two '-1' charges

Hence, the oxidation number of Ca in CaOCl₂ is +2
