oxidation state of nitrogen in hno4

Answers

Answered by Chandra1972
5

Explanation:

the Oxidation number of hydrogen is +1

the Oxidation number of oxygen is -2

the sum of the Oxidation numbers of nuetral molecule is zero

H+N+4 (O)= 0

+1+N+4 (-2)=0

1+N-8=0

N=7

I think this is not correct. .. nitrogen is VA group element so its oxidation number not more than 5...

Hope this helps mate ☺️.

Answer:

Answer is +5, We can see this by its structure. In its structure 1 peroxide bond is available.
When we calculate this by common method we get +7 but this is not correct because it can show oxidation state between -3 to +5.
