Hello friend,

Your answer is as following,

There are two oxides of sulphur that contain O₂ in a 40%-60% ratio i.e SO₃ and 50%-50% i.e. SO₂ ratio.

Here since the ratio of sulphur given is 50%, therefore the oxide would be SO₂ .

I hope the question is answered.

Thank you.

Answer ⇒ SO₂

Explanation ⇒ The oxide of the sulphur containing 50 % sulphur is Sulphur dioxide because in this oxide the mass of the Sulphur is same as that of Oxygen.

Molar Mass of SO₃ = 64 g.

Mass of the Sulphur is SO₂ = 32 g.

Mass of the Oxygen in SO₂ = 16 × 2 = 32 g.

∴ % of S in SO₂ = 32/64 × 100

= 50 %

Also,

% of O in SO₂ = 32/64 × 100

= 50 %

Hope it helps.
