Oxygen and ethyne is burnt for welding and not air and ethyne .Why?

For the purpose of welding there is a requirement of very high energy(as melting of metal is involved for sealing/joining the metals). With fuel like ethyne we will be able to attain a very high temperature only on properly combusting the fuel(which is burning of the fuel with enough oxygen to release a huge amount of heat energy). When we use air and ethyne we may not be providing the fuel with enough oxygen for proper combustion of the fuel. This may give rise to a yellow, sooty flame which is not desirable. Now when we burn a mixture of pure oxygen and ethyne we are proving the fuel enough oxygen in order to undergo a proper combustion. This will give a blue, clean flame which will give out a large amount of heat which is desirable fot heating and melting the metals. Hence we use a mixture of oxygen and ethyne instead of air and ethyne.
