Oxygen exists as a diatomic Molecule because it is bonded covalently. each oxygen atom requires 2 atoms for it's octet stability.
similarly , sulphur requires 8 atoms for attaining it's octet stability. It also does covalent bond , and forms an 8 sulphur atom-chaim.
