Aerobic oxidation is the process by which the metabolism of sugars and fatty acids take place in the presence of oxygen to produce energy giving ATP. ... Thus, oxygen is necessary for the complete oxidation of glucose because it is an aerobic reaction and because oxygen is the oxidizing agent.

Answer:

i. During cellular respiration, glucose is oxidised.

ii. Glycolysis is the first step which involves oxidation of glucose to form pyruvic acid. This step

do not require oxygen.

iii. This is incomplete and anaerobic oxidation of glucose.

iv. However, for conversion of pyruvic acid into Acetyl Co-A followed by Kreb’s cycle and

Electron transfer of chain reaction, oxygen is a must.

Thus, for complete oxidation of glucose oxygen is necessary.
