Oxygen molecule (triplet form; groundstate form) exhibits paramagnetic behaviour due to two unpaired electrons in the the pie antibonding molecular orbitals. The diagram of which I have attached below.


Also due to these unpaired electrons O2 doesn't react spontaneously with the organics in the environment, as they usually contain paired up electrons. Hence no autoburning of people
