UV rays release chlorine from CFC and that free chlorine destroys the ozone layer.

Explanation:

  • In the higher atmosphere ozone is created when the UV radiation strikes O2 molecule and splits it in two O atom. This oxygen atom when collides with O2 molecules it form O3 molecule which is called ozone.
  • When CFC reaches in the upper atmosphere UV radiation acts on it and free a chlorine atom from CFC. This chlorine atom when comes in contact with ozone it steals one oxygen atom and destroys ozone.
  • Therefore by converting O3 into O2 in the presence of UV rays CFC destroy the ozone layer.
