p and q can complete the work in 6 2/3 days

Given:

p alone can complete a work in 10 days

q alone can complete the same work in 20 days

To find:

If p and q work together then in how many days the same work will be completed

Solution:

p alone can complete a work in 10 days

⇒ Then the work can be done by p in 1 day = 1/10

q alone can complete a work in 20 days

⇒  Then the work can be done by q in 1 day = 1/20

If they both started working together

The work can be done in one day

= \frac{1}{10} +\frac{1}{20}  = \frac{2 + 1}{20} = \frac{3}{20}

p and q can do \frac{3}{20} work in 1 day

The number of days to complete 1 work = \frac{1}{\frac{3}{20} } (1) = \frac{20}{3} = 6 2/3 days

p and q can complete the work in 6 2/3 days

Answer:

The answer to the given question is that p and q can complete the work in

6 \times \frac{2}{3} days

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

p alone can complete a work in 10 days.

q alone can complete the same work in 20 days.

To find :

How many days the same work will be completed if p and q work together?

Solution :

p alone can complete a work in 10 days.

The work can be done by p in 1 day is

 \frac{1}{10}

q alone can complete a work in 20 days.

The work that can be completed by q in one day is

 \frac{1  }{20}

The work done by both of them, if they start working together means

 \frac{1}{10}  +  \frac{1}{20}  =  \frac{2 + 1}{20}  =  \frac{3}{20}

The work done by both of them in one day is

 \frac{3}{20}

The days required to complete 1 work is

 \frac{1}{ \frac{3}{20} }(1)  =  \frac{20}{3}

On division, we get the value as

6 \times \frac{2}{3} days

Therefore, the p and q can complete one work in

6 \times \frac{2}{3} days
