Semi conductors are of two types

1. Intrinsic semi conductors, which are pure without any dopants.

2. Extrinsic semi conductors, are impure due to the addition of dopants like 3rdA and 5thA elements.

Extrinsic semi conductors are of two types -

1. p type semiconductors -

Holes are majority carriers and electrons are minority carriers.

These conductors involve the addition of 3rdA group elements like Boron and Aluminium as dopants to the pure/intrinsic semi conductors.

2. n type semiconductors -

Electrons are majority carriers and holes are minority carriers.

These conductors involve the addition of 5thA group elements like phosphorus and arsenic as dopants to the pure/intrinsic semiconductors.
