Q left the work after 9 days from the beginning.

Given:

P and Q can do a piece of work in 20 days and 30 days respectively. They started the work together and Q left after some days of work and P finished the remaining working 5 days.

To Find:

The days from the start did Q leave.

Solution:

The LCM of 20 and 30 is 60. So the total work is 60 units.

The efficiency of P is \frac{60}{20}=3\,\,units.

The efficiency of Q is \frac{60}{30}=2\,\,units.

Work done by P and Q together is 5 units in one day.

Work done by P alone in 5 days is

1day=3 units\\5days=5\cdot 3 units\\=15 units

Work left is 60-15=45units.

Together from the start P and Q have done 45 units of work So, number of days they have taken is

\frac{45}{5}=9days

Thus, Q left the work after 9 days from the beginning.
