P and Q have certain number of apples P says to Q if u give me 10 of your apple i will have the twice the number of apples left with you .Q replies if u give me 10 of your apples .I will the same number of apples left with you .Find the number of apples with P and Q separately (correction in the question)

Given:

Certain apples are divided between P and Q.

To find:

The number of apple with P and Q.

Solution:

1) Let the apples with P is x

and apples with Q is y

2) case1:

  • x+10 = 2(y-10)
  • x+10 = 2y - 20
  • x-2y = -30 ------(I)

3) Case 2:

  • x-10 = y+10
  • x-y = 20 ------(II)

4) Subtract the equation (II) from (I)

 x - y = 20

-x+2y = 30

     y = 50

Putting the value of y in equation (II) we get,

  • x=70

The number of apple with P and Q are 70 and 50 respectively.
