the tendency of formation of ionic cpds increases from B to Tl. this is due to its extremely high ionisation energy(IE) which is not compensated either by the lattice energy of itd ionic cpd or by hydration energy of ions in aqueous solution. the small size and high charge of aluminium ion also gives it high charge density.
