P is 4 times faster than Q in doing a job. Q takes 27 more days than P to finish the job. If they work together, in how many days will the work be finished ?

as P is 4 times efficient than q ; q takes 4x days to complete the work

now 4x - x = 45

3x = 45

x = 15 days

so p takes 15 days to complete the work

Let P take x days to do the work and so Q will take 4x days to do the same work.

4x = x+27, or

3x=27, or

x = 9.

P takes 9 days and Q takes 36 days to do the same work.

P and Q, together do (1/9)+(1/36)

= (4+1)/36 = 5/36th

of the work in 1 day.

so p and Q together will do the same work in 36/5 days

or 7.2 days
