$p(x) = x - 1 = 0 \\ x = 1 \\ 2x - 5 \\ put \: the \: in \: x \\ 2(1) - 5 \\ 2 - 5 = 0 \\ - 3 = 0 \\ hence \: it \: is \: not \: a \: factor \: of \: p(x)$
