If p(x) = (x-1) (x+2), then we say,

a) (x-1) is a factor of p(x)

b) (x+2) is a factor of p(x)

c) p(x) is divisible by both the factors (x-1) and (x+2)

d) All of these

TO FIND :

The correct options to the given statement.

SOLUTION :

Given that the polynomial p(x) = (x-1) (x+2)

∴ x-1 and x+2 are the factors of the polynomial.

By the definition :

A factor of polynomial p(x) is any polynomial which divides fully into p(x).

∴ p(x) is divisible by both (x-1) and (x+2) (since by definition)

∴ all the first three options are true for this given polynomial p(x) = (x-1) (x+2).

Hence all the options are correct to the given polynomial p(x) = (x-1) (x+2).

Finally Option d) All of these is correct.
