Solution :

It is given that,

p(x+y) = q(x-y) = 2pq

Now ,

i) p(x+y) = 2pq

=> x+y = 2pq/p

=> x+y = 2q ---(1)

ii) q(x-y) = 2pq

=> x-y = 2pq/q

=> x-y = 2p

=> y = x-2p -----(2)

substitute (2) in equation (1) , we get

=> x + x-2p = 2q

=> 2x -2p = 2q

Divide each term by 2 , we get

=> x - p = q

=> x = q+p ----(3)

substitute x = p+q ,in equation (2), we get

=> y = p+q - 2p

=> y = q-p

Therefore,

x = p+q ,

y = q-p
