समर्थ रामदासांनी सांगितलेच आहे की, 'वेष असावा बावळा। परि अंतरी नाना कळा। तुमचा स्वाबदार पोशाख लोकांच्या मनावर काही काळ छाप पाडू शकेल, पण तुमच्या अंगी काहीच कार्य-कोशल्य नसेल वर तुमचे रुबाबदार कपडे कवडीमोलाचे ठरतात.

मात्र, तुमच्याकडे विविध कला असल्या तर तुमच्या अंगावरच्या फाटक्या कपड्यांकडे कोणीही पाहणार नाही. तुमच्या कलांचेच कौतुक केले जाते. गाडगेबाबांच्या अंगावर कायम फाटके कपडे असायचे, पण त्यांच्या कीर्तनाला हनारोनी लोक जमायचे. रस्त्यावर साईबाबांचे सुंदर चित्र काढणारा फाटक्या कपड्यांत असला तरी लोक त्याच्याकडे पाहत नाहीत. त्याच्या चित्राची वाहवा करून त्याला बक्षिसी देतात. उघड्या अंगाने खेळ करणान्या डोंबान्याचा खेळ पाहायलाही गर्दी होते. का? तर त्याच्या अंगी असलेल्या नाना कळा आपणांस मोहवतात.​
