Plants do carry out photosynthesis during the day time and they 'mostly' respire during the night time.
1- During day time when photosynthesis occurs, oxygen is produced. The leaves use some of this oxygen for respiration and the rest diffuses into air.
3- During day time C02 produced by respiration is all used up in photosynthesis by leaves but rate of respiration is slow.
4- At night time no photosynthesis occurs and oxygen diffuses into leaves to carryout respiration and during night dark reaction takes place 02 releases. But rate of photosynthesis is slow during night.
