Answer: (a) The possible reason for the pain in her legs is because lactic acid is formed in her muscles when muscle cells respire anaerobically. The accumulation of lactic acid causes muscle cramps.

(b) She felt comfortable after a massage because it improves circulation of blood.  As a result, supply of oxygen to the muscle cell increases. The increase in the supply of oxygen results in the complete breakdown of lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water.
