Paheli took a wire of length 10 cm. Boojho took a wire of 5 cm of the same material and thickness both of them connected with wires as shown in the circuit given in figure. The current flowing in both the circuits is the same.
(a) Will the heat produced in both the cases be equal? Explain.
(b) Will the heat produced be the same, if the wires taken by them are of equal lengths but of different thickness? Explain.

Answer:

i) Total sum of heat produced in the respective wire depends upon the length (end to end distance) of the wire. So, the total sum of heat produced in both cases will not be equal.

ii) No. Thickness or width of the respective wire decides the total sum of heat produced by the wire.

No, the amount of heat produced in the wire depends upon the thickness of the wire

Answer:

a)

Current is same

heat produced is I^2R

R is directly proportional to length

so R is greater than for circuit 1.

Hence heat produced in ckt 1 will be more.

b)

R is indirectly proportional to c.s.area I.e. thickness.

If thickness more R less and vice versa.

so in the less thickness conductor heat produced will be more.( R is more)
