paheli watched her grandmother
making mango pickle. After she bottled the pickle, her grandmother poured oil in top of the pickle before closing the lid. paheli wanted to know why oil was poured? Can you her understand why?

Oil is poured on the pickles because of preservations. The salt controls the fermentation process.

And vinegar is added to it for flavour and to prevent the microorganisms to grow in it.

So oil is added to it to seal the bottle from air to control the fermentation inside the bottle. It is a natural medium used to seal.
