As her husband died and she had no way to protect her kingdom from the British rule she took her horse , and tied her baby in on her back, and jumped from approximately a  height of five stored building.           And died in fighting alone with the British soldiers.

Rani Lakshmi Bai was a warrior who fought for the independence of India from the British rule. She was the Rani of Jhansi. On 10- May-1857 the rebellion of Indian soldiers started at Meerut.

The rumour spread that the bullet casings that were supplied by the British to Indian soldiers were coated with beef and pork started to spread all over India.

At that time, Lakshmibai was ruling Jhansi only. She began mobilising her troops efficiently to stop fights initiated by the other princes. The city was comparatively calm in the unrest that was there in the area but Rani Lakshmibai did Haldi Kumkum ceremony with a celebration in front of all Jhansi women to give assurance to her subjects.

She convinced them that the British were cowards and people need not be not afraid of them. Up to that point, Lakshmibai was not at all hesitant to rebel from the British.

The Britishers humiliated her in Jhokan Bagh. She fought the British troops when Jhansi was attacked by them on 23 March 1858. Tatya Tope headed an army of more 20,000 people but then, they failed to put up much resistance when they fought the British.

Hugh Rose and along with an Indian general betrayed Rani Lakshmibai. After three days, the British forces captured the city and Rani Lakshmibai escaped in the night with her son with her guards surrounding her.

Later, she committed Sati with a large number of women. Therefore, she laid down her life for the nation.
