Answer :

x = 19/16 , y = -3/2

Solution :

Here ,

The given equations are ;

2x + 3y = 5 -------(1)

2x + y = 8 ---------(2)

Now ,

Subtracting eq-(2) from (1) , we get ;

=> (2x + 3y) - (2x + y) = 5 - 8

=> 2x + 3y - 2x - y = -3

=> 3y - y = -3

=> 2y = -3

=> y = -3/2

Now ,

Putting y = -3/2 in eq-(2) , we get ;

=> 2x + y = 8

=> 2x + (-3/2) = 8

=> 2x - 3/2 = 8

=> 2x = 8 + 3/2

=> 2x = (16 + 3)/2

=> 2x = 19/2

=> x = 19/(2×2)

=> x = 19/16

Hence ,

x = 19/16 , y = -3/2
