It was divided into Lower, Middle and Upper Palaeolithic age and covered 99% of human history. Palaeolithic sites have been found in India near Hunsgi, Bhimbetka and Kurnool.
  • The Mesolithic age refers to the period of human development. It occurred between the Paleolithic and Neolithic age.The period covered about from 12,000 years ago up to 10,000 years ago.3This period had the longest human history i.e. 99% of the generation of humankind was covered in this period.During this period small stone tools were used, known as microliths.

Environmental changes were gone through in this age. E.g. studies showed that the ice age ended in this period.

  • Neolithic period was characterised by using sharp edged polished tools like axe heads, adz heads, chisels, and gouge.

  • The Chalcolithic period or Copper Age, is a phase of the Bronze Age in which the addition of tin to copper to form bronze during smelting remained yet unknown by the metallurgists of the times. The Copper Age was originally defined as a transition between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age.
